Just saying that brings me so many feelings and emotions: fear, excitement, self-consciousness, confidence, humility, hope… and many other conflicting thoughts.
Five years ago when I was still within the first year of Jack’s life, I really struggled to figure out how to connect to God as a mom. The change in my life had changed my spiritual life too, and I wasn’t sure how to adjust my spiritual practices in order to meet with God. I figured I wasn’t alone, but I could not find many resources on the spiritual life of a new mama. With all of the books out there on breastfeeding and sleep and fussiness, there wasn’t much for caring for a mom’s soul. After several months, I had the idea to write a devotional for moms to help them (and me) out.
I got a job shortly after getting started on the devo and my time was overtaken by work, but the idea has never left me. In fact, it has grown stronger over the years. I am in fact stepping back considerably from my work at Scum of the Earth Church in order to spend the next year writing this book.
This is where you come in. Would you be part of my Awesome Mamas Group? I know, I know, there’s gotta be a better name than that (suggestions?), but I need to know what the first year or two was like for you. What was your spiritual life like? Was it easy becoming a mom? That kind of thing. I have a fairly simple survey attached below. And, in the future, I will ask questions as they come up. If you could take the time to answer them , I would really appreciate your help.
AND, as a thank you, I have a giveaway. If you answer the survey, please write a comment below and I will enter you in a drawing to win a book that has formed my spiritual life over the years: Spiritual Disciplines Handbook by Adele Ahlberg Calhoun. In it are dozens of “out of the box” ways to connect with God. The drawing will end a week from today on October 2 and I will announce the winner on the blog.
If you want more information on my book, please contact me! I would love to hear from you.
I did the best I could, it was a long time back to when my first was new!
